Depot Park, located in historic downtown Kennesaw, serves as a community gathering space for the Kennesaw community. Depot Park is part of the overall plan to revitalize downtown Kennesaw, Georgia. This scenic backdrop offers a welcoming place to relax and participate in events, all surrounded by historic buildings. It is the perfect blend of history and state-of-the-art recreational design. CSC Design provided historic renovation of the 1890 Carrie House and the 1908 Train Depot. Proving charm to this park, the Carrie House was initially built for a local merchant and now serves as a Community House. Once a freight and passenger depot, the Train Depot now serves as a centerpiece for City-sponsored events and activities. An additional focal point of this park is an outdoor stage, where live events draw the community together. This 50 x 42 square foot stage offers a back-of-house area and can accommodate 3,000 visitors on its lawn for celebration events. Restroom and storage facilities were designed to reflect the Depot’s historic charm. CSC Design additionally designed walking trails and pedestrian bridges throughout the park.
During construction, it was discovered that the historic train depot foundation was in dire straits due to water intrusion and termite damage. CSC was able to quickly provide additional design services and engineering to facilitate the raising of the train depot and the construction of new cast-in-place foundation walls and a perimeter deck that met all ADA and city requirements. This project demonstrated CSC’s ability to respond swiftly to unforeseen situations while keeping construction and design timelines on track.
